My Diet history - You cant force anyone to change their diet.

Growing up in Ireland Ive grown up eating quite a lot of junk. The same as a lot around me I ate a lot of sugar. Not many fizzy drinks but Ive eaten a lot of carbohydrates and sugars.
My parents were great parents, but they are still not aware of the danger of sugar.
So where did all this lead me?

Well by the time I was 12 I started becoming overweight. I was a very thin child, but as I became a teenager the weight came on and on. It wasn't for the lack of exercise either. I loved to play football, handball and cycle. As a child I used to cycle for miles and miles.

So how heavy did I get? By the time I was 17 years of age I weighed 17.5 stone or 245/250 pounds and it was all of fat. I had no muscle whatsoever. I used to get teased by kids at school and even older ones used to tell me to diet.

But no matter how much people used to tell me to diet and to lose weight I just couldn't do it. Nobody can force you to diet. No-one can bully you into losing weight. No-one can lose the weight for you.

I used to down serious amounts of junk food. If I had a biscuit Id have 10. With my children, I'm going to have a stronger force on them and not allow them to eat the junk food in the amount that I was allowed.

One day I decided I was going to lose weight, I hated being fat, and I decided that I was no longer going to continue the way I was. I decided.

Over-eating can often have emotional causes. I think mine did, but lack of food awareness was definitely a problem

Do you have someone in your family or a friend that is over-weight?

Don't force them to lose weight or get frustrated with them and their weight problem. Instead try to talk to them about it calmly. Preferably let them bring the subject up first.

One good step is to keep a food diary to see how bad the eating habits are. But remember, you cant force them to diet or to change their diet at least. They have to decide. You have to decide.

How did I lose the weight? Did I keep it off? What did I use for motivation?

That and more to come, along with some really bad "fat" pictures!
